After facing an unexpected career setback, Marichu Jaro made a bold decision that changed the course of her future. Today, she’s thriving in the property management and real estate field, an industry she once knew nothing about.

When the company Marichu worked for declared bankruptcy, she knew she needed a new direction and a stronger foundation to re‑enter the workforce with confidence.

“I had to go back to the workforce with a better salary… and I knew going back to school was the better option.”

Unsure of what program to pursue, she reached out to the New Westminster campus for guidance. After speaking with a team member, everything became clear.

“The team member at the New Westminster campus advised me that Business Administration was suited for me because I already had an educational background from back home.”

That conversation set Marichu on a new path. Before enrolling, Marichu visited several schools, but Sprott Shaw stood out immediately.

“When I stepped into Sprott Shaw, I felt at home. It was a warm welcome, the receptionist, the support, the advisor who guided me step by step. I felt like I wasn’t alone in this journey.”

Throughout her program, she found not just education, but community. Supportive instructors, helpful classmates, and friendships that continue long after graduation.

“My classmates were the best. We hung out inside and outside school, and some of us still keep in touch today.”

A Practicum That Opened Doors

One of the most memorable parts of Marichu’s program was her practicum experience. Not only did it help her build confidence, but it also planted seeds she didn’t expect.

Two years after completing her practicum, the director from the company reached out to her directly.

“He said, ‘I need someone like you.’ I was so surprised. They saw potential in me, maybe because of the training and skills I got from Sprott Shaw.”

Despite having zero background in property management or real estate, Marichu landed a role in the field and continues to grow within it.

“Because of the training I got, I got hired even with no experience. Now I’ve learned residential, rental, commercial, I think I’ll be in this field for a long time.”

Marichu’s Advice for Future Students

For anyone considering going back to school or starting something new, Marichu’s message is simple and powerful:

“Go for it. No matter what course or what your heart desires… push through it. Once you get your training from Sprott Shaw, you’ll never know how far you can go.”
