I was working as a Health Care Assistant and also a youth worker before attending Sprott Shaw for the Practical Nursing program.
Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?
I chose Sprott Shaw for the flexible entry dates and convenient location as it fit my home life needs.
How was the admissions process?
The admissions process was simple and easy with the help of my advisor.
What program did you choose and why?
I have a passion for providing high-quality care to those in their lowest moments and also working with their loved ones to provide person centered care. This is why the Practical Nursing program was a good fit for me.
What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?
I met an amazing group of people and was fortunate to make it through with my cohort. There were also a few instructors who were instrumental for my success and were so supportive throughout the program.
Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?
My final practicum placement was at Richmond hospital. It went very well, I learned a lot and made some great connections. I was even offered a position at the end of my preceptorship.
How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?
I had an interview lined up within a week of finishing school and was offered the position on the spot at a hospital.
Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?
I work at Ridge Meadows Hospital and work on a medical unit. My duties typically include head to toe assessments, medication administration, wound care, personal care, IV starts, documentation and various other duties.
If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?
I’d say to come in with an open minded and also be prepared for self guided learning as we are now adult learners and we have to manage our time to work with our personal lives as well.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
The overall experience was great! I finished with a 4.1 GPA and met an amazing group of lifelong friends.
