What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?

I used to work in an international school in Japan.

Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?

There aren’t many schools where even international students like us can obtain an ECEA. My agent recommended Sprott Shaw, and I found that it had a great reputation with many positive reviews. In addition, its long history suggests that its educational style is well-established. That’s why I chose this school.

How was the admissions process?

It was okay. They have a Japanese coordinator who gave me reliable and sufficient information quickly, which was reassuring.

What program did you choose and why?

I wanted to work in childcare as soon as possible and was interested in learning about early childhood education.

What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?

It was a comfortable environment for me. The classroom was not too big and not too small. They had a relaxing cafeteria, which I often used. The Wi-Fi was fast, so it was a good environment for me to focus on my studies.

Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?

My practicum took place in Burnaby, and it was an amazing experience. My host teacher was attentive and gave me many opportunities to engage with the children. She always provided positive feedback, which helped boost my confidence and motivation.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

It took about two months. I struggled to get certified because I didn’t have a secondary ID at the time. Therefore, I volunteered at the workplace in the beginning until I obtained my ECEA certification.

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

I’m currently working at a childcare center in West Vancouver. I support the children’s development in areas such as fine motor skills, language skills, and social skills. I also help some children with eating, toileting, and sleeping. In the mornings during circle time, I read books and sing songs. I play with the children outside every day.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?

They support you 100% at all times. You’re always welcome, so I believe you can focus on your studies without any worries.
