What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?
I was studying to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at a different college, and previously worked as a Self Checkout Attendee.

Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?
I also learned that this college has a great reputation and a rich history.

How was the admissions process?
Very quick and easy.

What program did you choose and why?

Health Care Assistant. I chose this program because of my interest in the healthcare field and my desire to assist people who are in need. Also, taking this program would help me become more well-educated as I continue my studies in becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse.

What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?
The environment was clean and peaceful. Studying was no issue, and the equipment is easy to work with.

Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?

My practicum was held at Oakwood Manor. It was a great experience. The health care assistants taught me useful tips and tricks to organize my supplies.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

About one week.

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

I work at The Summit by Quadra Village, a long-term care facility. I assist residents with their daily activities, which may include helping them move from one place to another, feeding, showering, and dressing.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?
My advice to anyone planning to study at Sprott Shaw is: if you ever struggle with the coursework or feel stressed about exams, talk to your classmates for support and stay after class to ask your instructor more questions. The more questions you ask, the easier the program becomes over time.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
There were moments of self-doubt about whether I would pass, but my perseverance and determination to succeed helped me improve over time. For example, I often stayed after class to review and perfect each lesson, especially the practical skills needed for physical exams.

It takes me longer to memorize what was taught in class, so I frequently ask my classmates for tips and tricks. With patience and a positive outlook, I eventually graduated, smiling and ready to face the world.
