Discovering a New Career Path
When Dexter Dema Felix moved from the Philippines to Canada, he discovered a role that didn’t exist back home: Education Assistant (EA). Passionate about helping children with exceptionalities, Dexter enrolled in the Education Assistant program at our Kelowna campus to turn his passion into a profession.
“Being an education assistant means making a difference in students’ lives by supporting them with their exceptionalities. I want to help them succeed in their education journey.”
Why Choose Sprott Shaw College?
In Dexter’s words: “Sprott Shaw provides a healthy, happy learning environment. They supported us through classes and practicum placements, it was an amazing experience.”
From Classroom to Career
Dexter’s practicum at an elementary school was a turning point. He applied everything he learned in class, and on his last day of practicum, he interviewed with the school district and got hired before graduation.
“Sprott Shaw played a big part in this. The district trusts graduates from the college, and that opened doors for me.”
Tips for Future Education Assistant Students
Dexter’s advice for aspiring EAs:
- Enjoy the process and learn while having fun.
- Take advantage of scholarships and campus opportunities
“Sprott Shaw gives you the best education and a positive environment. While you’re learning, you’re also having fun.”
