Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Written on 10/23/2025

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! Sprott Shaw College is proud to offer a Cybersecurity program that’s shaping and preparing the next generation of Cybersecurity professionals.

Their work sometimes goes unnoticed, and that’s usually a good sign! Cybersecurity workers oftentimes work behind the scenes to ensure that networks, computer systems, and databases are protected against cyber attacks. If you’ve never been notified of digital attacks or breaches at your workplace or by any digital service you use, you have cybersecurity specialists to thank for that.

Cybersecurity can be an exciting career, where you get to prepare and maintain the frontline defense against cyber attacks. In this role, your eye for detail, technical skillset, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are used to protect an organization’s networks, devices, and information.

Thanks to their training, specialized skills, and the importance of their role, cybersecurity professionals are compensated quite nicely. The average annual salary for cybersecurity specialists is over $95,000, with a median hourly wage of over $45, according to WorkBC.

The Cybersecurity program at Sprott Shaw College equips students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to protect digital assets, conduct threat analyses, and reduce cybersecurity risks. Through hands-on learning and real-world examples, our Cybersecurity students gain in-depth knowledge of cybersecurity risks, threats, countermeasures, concepts, tools, and technologies. In just 15 months (67 weeks), you’ll come out of Sprott Shaw’s Cybersecurity program ready to take on this exciting field.
