What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?
I completed my studies at Columbia College as an international student and have since obtained my permanent residency (PR). Before attending college, I explored different career paths, trying to discover what truly sparked my passion. I had always wanted to work in education and make a direct impact on students’ lives. That’s when I decided to pursue the Education Assistant program to gain the knowledge and hands-on experience I needed to transition into the field of education.
Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?
I chose Sprott Shaw College because of its strong reputation in providing practical, hands-on training and its commitment to student success. The Education Assistant program offered exactly what I was looking for: comprehensive coursework combined with real-world experience. I was also impressed by the supportive learning environment and the quality of the instructors, which made it an ideal place to grow both personally and professionally.
How was the admissions process?
The admissions process at Sprott Shaw College was straightforward and stress-free. From the moment I inquired about the program, the staff were friendly, helpful, and transparent about the requirements. What program did you choose and why?
I chose the Education Assistant program because I’ve always been passionate about supporting students and helping them succeed in their learning journey. This program stood out to me because it offered a balanced mix of theory and hands-on experience, which I knew would prepare me for the real challenges I’d face in the classroom. I wanted to gain the skills necessary to work with diverse learners, and this program gave me the tools to make a meaningful impact in education.
What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?
The environment at Sprott Shaw College was welcoming, supportive, and collaborative. From day one, I felt like part of a community where both students and instructors were genuinely invested in each other’s success. The classroom was a place where ideas were freely shared, and everyone was encouraged to grow and learn at their own pace. The staff were always approachable, and the overall atmosphere was one of positivity and motivation, which made it easier to stay focused and inspired throughout the program.
Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?
My practicum took place at Sullivan Heights Secondary School and Khalsa School Newton, where I had the chance to apply my learning in a real classroom setting. It was a hands-on experience that allowed me to work directly with students and support their unique needs. The staff were welcoming, and I received valuable guidance that helped me grow both professionally and personally. Overall, the practicum was an essential part of my education and deepened my passion for this field.
If you could advise someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?
My advice would be to stay organized. Don’t be afraid to ask questions; support is always available from both instructors and classmates. Embrace every opportunity to learn and grow, as it will make a huge difference in your success.

I just want to say how grateful I am for the entire experience at Sprott Shaw College. The program not only prepared me professionally but also helped me grow personally. I’ve met amazing people, learned valuable skills, and feel more confident in my ability to make a difference as an Education Assistant. It’s been an unforgettable journey, and I’m excited for what’s next!
